Join us in learning about Dr. Kate Pelham Newcomb, the country doctor who played a vital role in the history of Wisconsin’s great Northwoods. Due to Dr. Kate spear-heading a movement to build a hospital, the penny became the symbol of the project when local students sought to collect a million of them. A 10 feet in diameter, 18 inch thick, 17,452 pound, Lincoln-headed, copper-colored monument stands to remember the 1.7 million pennies that were raised. The Dr. Kate Museum is where you will discover the preserved history of Dr. Kate, the long history of Woodruff, the Million Penny Parade, and the world’s largest penny.
