Mentor Series: The Key to Effective Mainstreaming

This workshop is designed to inform home mentors and teachers on the development of a personal philosophy for mainstreamed education. Dozens of tenets and specific strategies will be presented. These techniques are designed to maximize the success of the special needs child, the regular education child and the home mentor and teacher.

Among the topics covered are:

  • Uses and abuses of competition in mainstream education

  • Initiation of "work ethic"

  • The doctrine of Fairness

  • Learning as a quantum experience

  • Dealing with conflict

  • Teaching the "hidden curriculum" of social skills

  • Multidisciplinary vs. transdisciplinary approaches to the team meeting

Objectives:

  1. That the learner will be exposed to the work of Laurence Kohlberg regarding the moral development of school aged children

  2. That the learner will be provided with a working definition of the Fairness Concept

  3. That the learner will be provided with several examples of the effective application of this Concept in the classroom
