Take a trip back in time at Cave of the Mounds National Natural Landmark! Known as the "Jewel Box of America's Major Caves" and "Wisconsin's Oldest Classroom," Cave of the Mounds offers a unique educational experience for all ages. The heart of your field trip is a self-paced, guided tour through the Cave. Along this walking tour you will encounter a varied collection of colorful stalactites, stalagmites, and other crystal formations. Guides stationed along the trail will showcase the science and history of the various caverns and passageways. Illuminated interpretive signs will enrich the journey. Please note that during the tour, masks and social distancing are required. Above ground, learn what makes Wiscsonsin's "Driftless Area" special. Explore our Oak Valley Loop and Karst View Trail to experience ancient oaks, rare sinkholes, and local history. Follow our Geologic Timeline to fast forward through Earth's fossil record.
